General FAQs

Do I need to return the pledge card?

If you pledge online (or by hard copy pledge form), we encourage you to return your pledge card to your canvasser or to the Community Fund Office. Employees who return their pledge cards, whether they donate or not, will be included in the Community Fund Draw Prize. The pledge cards also help canvassers ensure everyone has had the opportunity to participate. However, returning your pledge card is not mandatory.

If I pledge online, who has access to my pledge information?

Your pledge information will be included in a statistical report issued to your Ministry Representative or Chair, and Community Fund administration. The dollar amount pledged will be displayed in the report, but not designation information.

How much should I give?

Every donation, regardless of amount, makes a difference. Canvassers may suggest a donation in the amount equivalent to a common expenditure, such as a lunch, dinner, coffee, movie or video rental. Remember that participation is the key focus in the Community Fund campaign.

What if I can't afford it at the moment?

The Community Fund has many options. Payroll deductions do not start until January. The bi-weekly payroll deduction plan spreads the contribution throughout the year so you don't have to contribute one amount all at once.

Can I make a cash donation?

Yes. A cash donation is an option if you wish to give a one-time contribution. Donations can be made by cash or cheque. (Make cheques payable to the “Provincial Employees Community Services Fund”) Whether a cheque or cash, place it in a sealed envelope and staple the donation to your pledge form. If you wish to designate where these funds will go, be sure to identify the agencies and amounts on your pledge form. Tax receipts will be issued in February for all cash donations received in the Community Fund office by
Dec 31.

How much of my contribution is spent on administration?

No administrative costs are taken from donors' pledges. All funds raised by the Community Fund go directly to the selected agencies. The provincial government absorbs administrative overhead related to the campaign. Your local Community Fund Committee does not accept agencies for funding if their administrative costs are considered excessive.

What if I retire, am laid off, go on a leave of absence or my term contract is not renewed?

There is no commitment for donations to continue beyond the period of your employment. If you do not have a pay cheque, there will be no deduction.

What if something occurs in my personal life that makes continuing my payroll deductions to the Community Fund a financial hardship?

A pledge to the Community Fund via payroll deduction may be cancelled at any time by way of a written request (e-mail) to your payroll office. An end date will be put in the payroll system to discontinue your charitable contribution and payroll will then advise the Community Fund office of the change.

My spouse/partner already gives to the Community Fund. Why should I?

Your contribution, regardless of size, shows your support for service agencies in your community. A donation from both you and your spouse/partner adds to the overall amount going to these agencies, and, in addition, spouses can pool their charitable contributions on their tax return for a greater benefit.

Will I get a tax receipt and, if so, when?

Donors who have given a one-time contribution by cash or cheque, will be issued a tax receipt the following February, provided the donation was received in the Community Fund office by December 31. Donations made through bi-weekly or one-time payroll deductions will be included on your T-4 slip.

Why should I contribute through the Community Fund? What makes this a better option?

  • There is a wide variety of vetted organizations to choose from.
  • 100% of every contribution you make goes to the charitable organization of your choice.
  • All donations are spent locally.
  • There are various easy ways to make your donation.
  • The Community Fund helps build morale in the workplace.

Is my Union in support of the Community Fund?

Yes, the Provincial Employees Community Services Fund is a joint initiative between the Union and Provincial Employees. Union letter.
